How to feel Confident at your Branding Shoot

1. LIGHTING IS IMPORTANT

Take photos in a place with a lot of natural light. Most of us don't have that perfect office with a lot of beautiful natural light shinning in at all hours of the day.  No need to worry, there are a couple of things you can do. Consider cleaning up an area that is close to a nice window. For example, Vivian's studio was in her basement which did not have a lot of natural light. She chose to have her photos taken at her kitchen table near a large beautiful window. You could also consider renting a studio for an hour or two that looks like a fun office. Two places in the Washington D.C. area that are beautiful are  Fostr Collaborative or Common Room Studio in Alexandria.

2. HIGHLIGHT YOUR BRAND

Choose clothing that reflect your brand's color palette, style, and personality.  Consider doing a couple of outfit changes, possibly one casual and one dressy. Since Vivian is a sewer who prefers bright hues, she chose several pieces that she not only made, but that were bold in color as well.

3. FOCUS ON THE BEHIND THE SCENES

Create a visual style that tells a story about who you are. What does a day in the life of your business looks like? Think about the tools you use throughout your day, such as a daily planner, your favorite mug, your phone or laptop or even your favorite go-to snack? You can see how I focused on capturing Vivian's sewing tools, sewing machine, yarn, and handmade patterns. People want to see what you do and what the behind-the-scenes of your business looks like. I was so impressed that Vivian drafts her own clothing patterns! I've never seen that done before! I know her followers enjoy seeing that as well.

4. THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS

Stay in a positive frame of mind. Thinking happy thoughts translates to your photos. Think about why you started your business and how awesome it is to be doing something you love!

5. TRUST THE PROFESSIONAL

Leave the rest up to the photographer! If there is something you are uncomfortable with or you have a concern about, don't hesitate to let me know before hand so that I can help you feel as amazing as possible during the shoot.
